The Impacts Of Fast Fashion On Environment - Zabreca
The Impacts Of Fast Fashion On Environment

Fast fashion:

Fast fashion trends spread all over the world through media, climate, and technology.  Fast fashion is very popular because of its cheap price and new trendy designs. These fashionable dresses move quickly from ramp to store. It facilitates consumers to buy a new and classy dress at a very affordable price. But at the same time, the production of these new trendy cloths has a bad effect on the environment.

Fashion involves styles in the context of clothing, footwear, makeup, hairstyles, and other accessories.  This is not possible for clothes for a longer period. All people are to follow the latest fashion which changes day by day. They go on sales, brought the latest fashionable dresses, and on next month or year they do the same. But stop!

You should know about the bad impact of fast fashion on the environment which is harmful not only for you also for your future generations and sea animals. Here we will discuss some factors which help you to understand how the fast fashion industry ruins the world.

 Fast fashion and environment:

The fashion industry is on the second largest pollutant industry in this world which has a very bad impact on the environment. Nowadays, this industry is increasing but at the same time, environment pollution is also increasing. It predicts that by the 2030 fast-fashion industry will increase 35% more. The demand for new fashionable clothes is increasing day by day just because of fast fashion.

However, this is time to discuss this worse problem and try to find out some solutions and alternative ways to tackle this problem. Otherwise, this industry has a bad impact on the environment, increases water pollution, textile waste.

Fast fashion and water pollution:

In this modern world, almost every country produced garments. But the untreated waste of dumped into water that makes water more pollutant because it contains toxic material such as mercury, arsenic among others. These are very harmful to the life of millions of people. Through rivers, this harmful water waste reaches into the sea and eventually spread into the world.

Fast fashion and water consumption:

The clothing industry requires more water for dyeing and finishing purposes. More the 200 tons of water used to dye just 1 ton of fabric which is more than enough. When cotton is cultivated it required a lot of water to grow, 2000 liters of water required to cultivate I kilogram cotton. A single dress takes 2000 liters of water to produce. But, 75% of the world population doesn’t have access to clean drinking water. This causes extreme pressure on this precious resource. The 85% of water requirements can be fulfilled with this freshwater which the clothing industry used to grow cotton and the process of making fabric.

Fast fashion and microfiber in our oceans:

Approximately, 190,000 tons of microfiber textile dumps into the ocean.  These microfibers are eaten by small fish and later on these small fish are eaten by the big one and the circle goes on. Eventually, plastic becomes part of our food chain. This is bad for sea animals and humans also. More than 100,000 marine animals are killed because of plastic waste every year, including microfiber which is used to make cheap clothes.

Fast fashion and chemicals:

The main component of the fashion industry is Chemicals. Chemicals use on every stage in the production of cloth-like dyeing, bleaching and other processing of garments. Chemicals not just use in fabric production but also use to fertilize cotton. These chemicals cause many dangerous diseases and also premature death among the farmers who fertilize cotton. Some of these factors are also harmful to consumers.  More than 37 kg of cloth is thrown every year by one person. This can recycle or donate to those who don’t have money to buy new clothes.

Fast fashion and greenhouse gas emissions:

This Fast fashion industry cause of greenhouse gas emission because of the energy and heat used in the process, production and manufacturing but at the same time the transport which they use to transfer their garments in one corner to the other. New clothes which people brought in the world, can cause to produce carbon emissions than a car.

By 2030, it is predicted that CO2 will increase by 2.8 billion per year. This is equivalent to the emissions of 230 million car pollution which are driven by the passengers. That increase heat and pollution which generates greenhouse gas emission. Synthetic fibers like nylon and polyester are made of fossil fuel. This production consumes more energy than those fibers which make with natural fibers. China and India produce more cloths but these countries powered by coal. Most of the countries use coal-based industry to produce cloth. But have zero participation to clean the environment clean.  In terms of carbon emission, this is the dirtiest type of energy.

Fast fashion and soil degradation:

Healthy soil is required for food production and also to absorb carbon dioxide (CO2). Soil is the basic part of our ecosystem but the main issue which has a bad effect on plants is the degradation of soil. This also has a bad effect on healthy food production and also causes global warming. The fashion industry badly impacts on environment degrading soil in different ways like excess use of chemicals to grow cotton, after effect of this process id degradation of soil. Wood-base fiber like rayon also has a bad effect on the environment because to get this fiber this industry cut a lot of trees which caused deforestation. The loss of forests is threatening the ecosystem.

Criticism on fast fashion:

Fast fashion is also called deposable fashion because of their throw-away attitude. The style and quality of this fashion are not so for long it changes quickly. Fast fashion also contributes to pollutant the environment, increase global degradation, harmful for sea animals and also pollutant the water. This is the time to resolve this and make plans to safe and secure not only to humans but the animals also.

To overcome this fast fashion impact on the environment, it is necessary to understand this problem which has a very bad impact on our future generation also.

  • Don’t go with those clothes which make with chemicals, always choose natural and organic fiber.
  • Linen and recycled water have low water consuming clothes always choose that fiber which has less consumption of water.
  • Don’t choose synthetic garments like nylon and polythene. Always go with organic and semi-synthetic fiber.
  • Always buy productive and best quality clothes that will decrease the burden of the fast fashion industry.
  • Choose those sustainable brands that make garments with natural and organic fiber without using chemicals which harmful for the globe.
  • Look at the certified chemical-free labels.
  • Choose that fibers which are soil friendly.
  • We should consider the bad effects of fast fashion on the environment and try to change the way to purchase new clothes.

We as a nation, give a massage to the fast-fashion industries that we will not buy those clothes that will harm our environment and our future generation. Always buy a sustainable brand, which produces their clothes with organic and natural material.
